New to Electrolysis

Congratulations!

You’ve discovered electrolysis—the only FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal.

What to Expect

Today’s advanced technology in electrolysis enables specific settings and faster treatment times for a smoother, hair-free look. At Everlasting Electrolysis, we use state-of-the-art equipment: the Canadian-designed Apilus Senior II, the most popular electrolysis device in the world. We will design a treatment plan together that fits your schedule, budget and desired results. In the beginning, it is recommended to have bi-weekly sessions. Later, your appointments will have more time between them as hair growth slows, and your hair gets finer and lighter. All hair growth is hormone-stimulated. As your hormones continue to change, electrolysis is a great choice for maintenance.

At the end of your treatment, there may be some slight redness or swelling, which typically subsides within a few hours. Initial aftercare is part of your treatment.

Please read below under “Before Your First Appointment” and “Aftercare” for more detailed information.

Areas to be treated

Electrolysis can be performed on any color and texture of hair and skin, on almost any part of the body. At this time, EE is focusing on helping people with their unwanted facial hair.

Important considerations: Upper lip is a sensitive area. We recommend contacting your doctor for a numbing agent prescription (we prefer Emla, a 2.5% lidocaine and 2.5% prilocaine combination). Or, your doctor may want to prescribe something more powerful.

Zensa is available online without a prescription, and is easy to use and highly effective.

Another excellent and effective numbing cream is NumbSkin, which is available in two strengths. (These endorsements are purely my personal recommendations, and I receive no compensation for them.)

For bikini and underarm areas, it is ideal to arrange with your physician to receive numbing injections before your electrolysis treatments. Please check in with Barbara before scheduling for these areas.

Before your first appointment

Here are some helpful tips to make your first electrolysis session as successful as possible.

Stop Tweezing

If you are waxing, plucking, tweezing or threading, please stop doing so at least 14 days prior to your first appointment. When hair is tweezed or waxed, it is unknown when those hairs will reappear to be treated. Sometimes hair can be dormant for up to six months when you are tweezing or waxing.

Length of Hair

Your hair needs to be visible and long enough to be treated—ideally, a few millimeters. If you shave/clip, please don’t do so for at least a couple of days before your session.

No Caffeine

Caffeine can raise your overall sensitivity, and make it harder for you to relax during your treatment.

Taking the Edge Off

It’s recommended to take ibuprofen or acetaminophen 30-45 minutes before your appointment. Many of you walk into my office and love the music I play. It’s a wide variety and some pretty eclectic stuff. Here’s a link to my Spotify account. Happy tunes! My Spotify

Numbing Agents

Apply a thick layer of numbing agent 30-45 minutes before your appointment. If you use a prescription cream, it is ideal to cover it with plastic wrap (we recommend Press & Seal because one side is sticky and stays on better). If you are using Zensa, there is no need to cover it. It’s important to relax after applying, as this enhances the anaesthetic effect. Applying it before running a bunch of errands and rushing to your appointment will not give the desired results.

Hydrate

Make sure to drink plenty of water the day of your appointment. Hydrated skin responds better to electrolysis.

Time to Relax After

Allow yourself at least ten to fifteen minutes to relax after your session. Speaking from years of personal experience, your body will love you for it!

Aftercare

The process of electrolysis is self-sterilizing. It is of utmost importance to keep the treated area clean, and avoid sunshine, chlorinated water, pools and hot-tubs, as well as strongly-scented lotions, exfoliants and facial masks. Most important—keep your fingers and hands away from the treated area! Make sure to have a clean pillow case and/or sheets. Stay hydrated. Redness will usually go away within an hour or so. We apply healing and cooling products after the treatment is completed. We use natural products such as aloe vera, calendula cream, witch hazel, etc., to support your skin, and recommend the use of these products at home.

Ideally, wait at least a couple of hours before applying makeup. Make sure your makeup is not older than six months.

What They Say

“I’ve been to a lot of electrologists, moving around the country—at least ten, and you are definitely my favorite. When you were out of town, it was easy to wait for you. Didn’t want to see anyone else.”

“I always feel so clean and so much prettier when I leave Barbara’s office, and it’s really relaxing.”

A.S., February, 2010

“Time with you is the process—and so great, but it’s really the next day, when I see and touch my hair-free skin, that I truly appreciate the gift you give to us.”

— D.S., September, 2010

“What you do is so important. You have such good energy, and I always feel so much better, even if I don’t see another human ever again.”
